These mammoth tusk bark scales are cut from a piece that has been kiln-dried, cast in stabilizing resin, and heat-cured for a period of one week. This technique results in a much more stable and durable material, minimizing deformation during cutting, sanding, or turning.
The listing is for a set of two panels as seen in the photos. The items pictured are the actual pieces you will receive. We do our best to show all their features so please look closely before purchasing.
This is a genuine mammoth fossil, dating back to the last Ice Age, and is approximately 20,000 years old. Mammoth ivory is a great material for knife and pistol grips, inlays, jewelry, pens, and other semi-precious applications.
Working With Mammoth Ivory:
These fossils are not yet petrified, though you may see limited mineralization. The tusks are still soft enough to work with regular tools you would use for horn and bone. Just keep them sharp.
