What you see here are amber stones that have been cast in a resin matrix. We decided to keep the resin transparent in order to make all of the amber visible and allow the light to pass through it, creating beautiful reflections. The photos are representative of the scales you may receive. Your scales will not be polished.
This is a genuine Baltic amber, which is approximately 35 million years old, and will make for truly unique grips.
Working With Amber Scales:
These scales are harder than wood or regular acrylic products. The density differences between the amber and the resin are not high, but enough to create a visible interface between the two, resulting in an interesting surface appearance. Please keep in mind that these amber stones are naturally transparent, and are embedded in a transparent resin, so the tang will be visible underneath, and we highly recommend using a liner, the color of which will have a drastic effect on the appearance of the scales. Refer to the photos and videos above to see the difference between different liners. The more reflective the liner, the brighter and more dynamic the amber will appear. Brushed brass liner makes these look absolutely stunning. There is a lot of room for experimenting, just keep in mind that light and reflections are key to bringing amber to life!
